"We are interested in the neural basis of cognitive and emotional-motivational processes and their disturbances in major neuropsychiatric disorders"

Prof. Dr. H.J. (Henk) Groenewegen
Head of the Department of Anatomy

"We are dealing with the interconnections and functional relationships of prefrontal cortex, basal ganglia and limbic structures like the amygdala and the ventral striatum. In other words, we map the neuronal circuits involved in cognitive processes and we are interested in the neurotransmitters involved, receptors and their plasticity. Our goal is to establish correlations between structural and functional or dysfunctional aspects of the brain circuits involved.
